When the Genesis II 400 series was introduced in 2017, the barbecue world went crazy. These huge four-burner grills were the perfect answer for people who wanted a grill the size of a Summit, without the price of a Summit.
But there was a problem. These thousand-dollar grills didn’t have a Sear Station burner and thus didn’t have the high heat output needed to prepare perfectly grilled steaks.
Weber listened to his customers and in 2019 launched the Genesis II 435, a great four-burner grill with a Sear Station system and a side burner.
Technical data and dimensions
To get a better idea of what this grill has to offer, let’s take a look at some figures.
- Grid space: 646 inches from the main cooking area with an extra 198 inches as food preheater.
- Arsonists: Four stainless steel burners
- Thermal energy: (48 000 Btu/hour) / (646 square inches) = 74 Btu/hour per square inch
- Sear Station Burners: 9,000 Btu/hour
- Side burner: 12,000 Btu/hour
- Dimensions (with lid open) : 61 H x 61 W x 29 D-45 H with closed lid
- iGrill 3 : Compatible, but accessories sold separately
- Warranty information: 10 years – excluding normal wear and tear and subject to additional conditions.
Just like the original Genesis II 410 grill, it’s the size that makes it great. The main grilling area of the 400 Series is 646 square centimeters, 25% larger than the Genesis 300 Series and even slightly larger than the six Summit 670 burners.
435 E versus S
The 435 models are available in an E and an S version, and there is an important difference between the two.
The E version has a lid and base cabinet in black enamelled porcelain, while the S version has the same components in stainless steel.
An important difference concerns the cooking grids. On model E 435 the grilles are made of cast iron, on model S 435 the grilles are made of 7 mm thick bars of stainless steel.
The cast iron radiator grille of the E 435 is ideal. It is a resistant enamelled porcelain, which makes it possible to work with it for many, many years.
The stainless steel grid of the S 435 is the perfect solution.
With 7 mm rods you get much better roasting results than with cast iron, and keeping the stainless steel rods clean is just one rod. Cast iron gratings have a protective porcelain layer, but over time they start to sink and after a few years the cast iron begins to rust. You don’t have that problem with stainless steel.
Advantages and disadvantages of Genesis II 435
on the positive side
If you’ve never had a Weber gas barbecue before, you’ll be amazed at the difference in operation between these grills and the thin, small and cheap ones that can be found in supermarkets. The 435 does the same as all Genesis gas grids with even heating and minimal flames.
The exceptional quality of the assembly is reflected in the 10-year warranty on all parts. By all the parts, I mean the oven, the lid, the burner pipes, the grill, the aroma, the ignition… everything. These are absolutely durable gratings that last much longer than the guarantees mentioned.
I know it’s a matter of personal taste, but I like all Genesis grills. The style is elegant, with a light retro touch of riveted side strips on the lid.
on the negative side
It is imperative to ensure that these schedules are affordable and do not affect most people’s budgets. However, compared to the Weber top four and six burner grills, these grills are a good deal. I even strongly suspect that the Genesis II S 435 will resell the Top S 470 to such an extent that Weber will cease production of the Top S 470 in one or two years time.
The other negative point of this grill is that although it is really solid, the reality is that you probably don’t need a grill this size. There’s nothing wrong with a solid grill, but a smaller unit like the Genesis II S 335 is probably more practical for most people.
Total
If you have the money and space for this giant grill, you can buy it knowing that you have Weber’s biggest gas grill, with all the hot energy you want.
This grill is beautiful and will make you happy.
