I’ve seen it: Josh Course
The Weber Q 220 is the largest model of the Q-series, which is still relatively portable.
This is a very well made grill, specially designed for those who want to bridge the gap between the Portability and the Big BBQ, which is a performance few grills can match.
Under the name Weber this model is very robust and very well built. It is designed to last for years, even if it aerates the elements in your garden!
Despite the fact that Weber no longer uses this grid, they replaced it with the Weber Q 2200, which has hardly changed. Click here to see it on the Amazon.
About Weber Q 220
I like the number of hobs I have to work with. With the 280 square inch grill of you can easily make enough burgers for a family of four or more. Not that you have to stay with the hamburgers! Steak and chicken are looking delicious. Grilled vegetables are perfect.
Anyone who has had the chance to work with a Weber product knows that the quality of the material and the design are very important. Weber Q 220 is no exception. With its cast aluminium housing, sturdy GRP nylon frame and solid cast iron grille, it can withstand heat and weather without any sign of rust or wear and tear.
It is also very easy to clean. The rounded shape leaves no complicated corners for collecting remains. There is also a drip tray at the bottom, which collects grease and waste water and can be easily removed after cooking.
Other notable features
- Temperature indicator integrated in the hood
- The high lid leaves a lot of space.
- The cooking grid has a ceramic coating
- Three hooks for hanging barbecues
- Foldable side tables can be folded into the grill for easy storage
- A stainless steel burner that doesn’t rust.
- Rechargeable electronic ignition
What’s going on?
The Weber Q 220 comes with a grill housing and pre-assembled side tables. The cover, handle and temperature gauge are included in the scope of delivery, but must be fixed with the supplied equipment.
Instructions and a recipe book are also included.
There’s no grill and as I said, the booth is sold separately.
Although a small assembly is necessary, it is actually quite simple. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver and a good reading of the instructions in advance, and it should take you less than 15 minutes to put it together.
The only point I want to make is that the instructions for all Q-barbecues, so take a little time to distinguish between the parts that come with your grill and those listed in the manual that have nothing to do with it.
Dimensions and weights
With the lid closed, it measures 25 inches long, 32 inches wide and 16 inches high. With the lid open, about 26 inches high.
He weighs about 41 pounds.
By default, you can use or 14.1 oz. or 16.4 oz.propane disposable cylinders. Both will work. A 14 ounce bottle will give you about 3 hours cooking time and a 16 ounce bottle will give you a little more.
You can make your fuel costs much cheaper by using an accessory adapter and a hose designed to go from small cylinders to fuel tanks.
As I said before, there is a little trick to make the grill work with the adapter, otherwise it won’t work.
Since the pressure in reusable containers is much higher, opening the valve will cause the regulator to close or restrict propane flow. To bypass this problem, open the valve very slowly before trying to ignite it, not immediately.
If the regulator breaks or your grill does not heat up, you should shut off the propane and leave for a few minutes to relieve the pressure.
Weber not only offers a fantastic warranty on the Weber Q 220, but also has some of the best customer support tools in the industry. If you have any problems, even after the warranty period has expired, please contact them.
The warranty covers your grill for 5 years against manufacturing defects in the housing and frame. Discoloration is not included. All other parts will be covered within two years.
There are some good accessories that I highly recommend.
If you want a booth, you have a choice. If you want to leave the grill on your balcony or terrace, there is a nice fixed support that has no more legroom than the grill itself.
Those who want to travel can take a look in the style of the foldable stand. It is quite compact and light, yet stable enough.
You can choose from different types of grids. There is a simple vinyl cover that fits perfectly over the grid to protect it, and a wide and heavy cover for those who also have a support.
If you like to cook eggs for breakfast while camping, the frying pan is a good addition. Note that it only covers part of the grill, but leaves room for the sausages to bake!
And for those of us who do not like to use disposable propane cylinders, there is a regulator and adapter hose specifically designed for use with reusable tanks. There is a small trick to using such a facility, which I will examine in more detail in this report.
How portable is it?
Although it is technically very portable due to its size, its weight makes it difficult to carry.
Since all components are cast metal, it is not surprising that it weighs , with a colossal 41 pounds. Think how far you want to travel, because weight can be a problem.
The other problem is form. The rounded top makes it a little uncomfortable to store it in a small car, especially if you want to throw it in the trunk with everything you need.
The space-saving side tables are folded away and rest on the grid.
In addition, the does not come with aframe, although there are some models, including the foldable model. Without the stand you need a table or a flat surface to place it.
If you plan to move it or store it somewhere when not in use, one of its interesting features is the foldable side table. If you want to store it, simply lift the lid, fold the side tables inwards until they rest on the cooking grid and close the lid.
In general, this grill is suitable for people with limited space in the courtyard or on the balcony. People with large cars and caravan owners with sufficient storage space would also be well advised.
Then the Q 220 will be good!
Do you want a portable grill plate that cooks more than the standard grill plate? If you answered yes, this could be a very good choice!
Let me explain the heat first. It is designed for of 12000 BTU, which may not seem like much, but it is actually more than enough to bake anything you want with the design.
Because the body is made of thick cast aluminium, the heat is retained very well when the lid is down, even at a grid area of 280 square inches. Moreover, it has only one burner, which is shaped like a hinge at the bottom, ensuring maximum coverage.
After preheating the grill for only 5 minutes, your thermometer will read temperatures up to 600° F. This heat is more than enough to bring the cast iron grill to the ideal steak temperature.
The space under the lid is also quite generous. When I first started exploring this grill, I heard about people using it to grill roast and chicken, but since then I’ve read several reviews that say it’s impossible to set the temperature low enough.
The number of people she will feed really depends on what you want to do. Two poles with ribs are sufficient. Multiple hot dogs or ready-made meatballs can be carried at the same time. I recommend it for four people for steak or chicken, but it can take much more if you serve hot dogs or hamburgers.
For grilling, Weber Q 220 received the highest score of.
Cleaning and storage
I’ve read some complaints from people who complain they can’t really clean this grill. I seriously doubt their expectations.
Each grill contains a little cooking fat and in my opinion it would be absolutely ridiculous to expect it to be as clean as before use.
At the same time, of course, the possibility of cleaning according to the standards we all have is not excluded!
Because it has no corners, it is very easy to wipe the inside with a soft cloth and a little soapy water after a good wire brush, although it is a bit difficult to clean directly under the burner. My solution is to pull the tissue under the burner and gently pull it back and forth to remove the fat.
The grill grid is made of porcelain enamel, which makes it a bit difficult to clean. My favorite weapon is a scouring sponge, safe from non-stick surfaces. It easily removes most of the remaining fat and residue. I like to clean it while it’s still warm, but you can touch it. Never use a wire brush on the grate!
As for the rest of the fats and droplets, they all flow clean into the drop under the body. This tray is designed to fill special gutters made especially for this size, but if you don’t like the extra cost, you can also fill them with aluminium foil. When the grill cools down, simply remove the tray and drop the tray or foil.
The only part of the grill that really needs regular attention is the burner. Visually check that all burner holes are clean before each use. If not, use an old toothbrush or carefully use a wire brush to remove debris.
As far as storage is concerned, it can be stored very well if you have a special shelf for it. Otherwise, it’s okay to let him out.
Advantages and disadvantages of
- Made of highly resistant materials.
- A thermometer is installed in the hood.
- Can cook with a closed lid.
- It heats up quickly, cooks evenly on the grill and stays very hot.
- Very easy to clean with a well placed dripper.
- The stand is available separately.
- It’s heavier than most portable grills.
- A single burner means a single heat zone.
- The regulator can be too sensitive and get stuck.
- They’re not all portable.
Reviews and recommendations
Feedback from customers
After reviewing a number of reviews, I found that over 90% of the customers were satisfied with the with their Q 220 and rated it with 4 or more stars!
From what others say, you won’t be disappointed if you choose this grill.
Most comments are enthusiastic about the size and quality of the grill. Many are happy because it is ideal for small terraces or balconies and it is easy to cook for their family.
Others say it’s easy to store things in your house on wheels. My favorite comment comes from a woman who first bought a Q 220 for her motorhome, but finally came home from her full-size grill and used it instead. Finally she bought a second one for the van!
Almost all the lucky owners think it will be warm enough to search perfectly for almost every piece of meat they throw in.
Of course, there are always people who don’t have a good experience with this grill.
Most of the complaints I found were about an attempt to turn on the grill when it was connected to the refillable tank. As I said in the chapter on fuels, there’s a way to ignite them.
Others have had problems lighting or heating the grill, even with a disposable bottle under low pressure – although none of these comments have been made lately. Weber may have had a problem with the supervisor in the past, but that seems to have been solved. When you receive the Bam-cursor, call Weber and ask for a replacement.
I found a few other complaints about cleaning, but I still have the feeling that these people will never be satisfied with a grill. No matter how hard you try, your grill will never be as clean as the day you got it, if you actually use it.
The third (only) complaint I found concerned the lack of aromas. So far, I haven’t seen a portable grill actually turn them on.
I like the quality and durability of this grill, although I find it too heavy to really be portable.
The Weber Q 220 is suitable for those who have sufficient storage space, or for those who need a permanent grill at home that doesn’t take up a lot of space.
It will be very pleasant and warm and will feed at least 4 people, depending on what you are going to grill.
Usually the only real problem is weight. If it’s not a problem for you, it would be a good choice.

Customer evaluation :
If you need something more portable, I recommend the Coleman LXE. It is about the same size as the grid, but it is much easier to pack and move. However, LXE is absent in some areas.
In this article I compare the characteristics of the two grids.
If you like the features of Q220, but want something lighter or only feed two people, look for the smaller version.
Prices and sources of supply
The price of the Weber Q 220 is quite stable and is around $200 ~ $250. Although it costs a few dollars less than last year, I rarely see it in sales.
If you don’t want to pay the full price, you can always see if someone in your area is selling it on a secret website, but because of its popularity it is a pretty rare find!
UPDATE: Since the Weber Q220 is no longer in production, I can’t find any resellers who still sell it. The new version, Weber Q 2200, has hardly changed, except for a few style changes. Click here to see it on the Amazon.
