Charcoal Grill2GB Ice
I’ve seen it: Josh Course
You may wonder how you can make a mistake with Char-Broil Grill2Go Ice. Surprisingly, this great concept didn’t turn into a large portable grill, no matter how much fun it was.
It may look deadly and has fantastic extras like cool bags, but as we all know, appearances can be very deceptive.
In this review we are going to take a closer look at this incarnation of Grill2Go, and although we have decided to provide the report, you may still be interested.
Char-Broyl has stopped the production of Grill2Go Ice, as you can see on the picture. I can’t offer to replace the Char-Broil at the moment, but if you like this type of grill, you might be interested in one of the Coleman Roadtrip Grills.
O Coal-Broyl-Grill2Go ice cream
Char-Broil has integrated a patented infrared cooking system to transfer as much heat as possible from the 10 500 BTU single chamber burner to the grill for fast and even cooking.
And with , 290 square centimetres of grill area of, you can cook an entire batch at a time.
What makes this grill truly unique are the 30 removable 2 quartz coolers, which are located at the bottom of the foldable grill plate. When the rack folds down and the grill is in transport mode – reminiscent of rental luggage – both coolers are held firmly in place.
Other notable features
- Very easy to clean.
- Porcelain coated steel grill
- Easy to destroy and store
- Less glare compared to other portable gratings
What’s going on?
The model Char-Broil Grill2Go Ice comes with a partially mounted grill and stand, two flexible coolers and two detachable side tables.
Grill2Go Ice consists of almost 50 pieces. I’ve lost count.
A meeting can confuse a normal person, but it’s not entirely impossible. If the instructions are confused with, a little common sense – and an extra pair of hands – is enough to get them to work in a relatively short time.
It is a good idea to sit down with instructions and go through all the parts before trying to assemble the grill. This prevents incorrect installation and possible damage to the grille.
All small parts are marked in a very easy-to-identify packaging. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver and a wrench for assembly – and a little patience.
Mounting will be much easier if you have another person to help you by holding the larger parts in place while you attach them like a lid and a handle.
A normal person with some technical knowledge, who has gone through all the details, could probably have it for about 45 minutes. If they have help, hurry up.
Dimensions and weights
The Grill2Go is built and extended for cooking. It is 44.5 inches wide, 37.5 inches high and 20 inches deep and weighs about 70 pounds.
Ignition and placement of the propane cylinder on the right side of the grill This grill uses 16.4 oz. disposable propane cylinders. You can expect the bottle to last between 1 and 3 hours, depending on how high you set the burner.
If you’re planning a large kitchen, I recommend you keep at least one extra propane tank handy.
Disposable propane cylinders can be bought at large discount stores, hardware and household goods stores and sometimes at supermarkets and petrol stations.
For economical use of the , a hose is supplied separately for connection to larger propane tanks.
This grill comes with a very short, limited warranty from to 90 days covering perforations, manufacturing defects and materials, which is not very comfortable when I’m sitting on it.
Grill2Go does not have your usual list of accessories, but there are some good ones!
- The one-meter hose and adapter, as mentioned above, turns your disposable bottle grill into a reusable container.
- Grill lid fits on Grill2Go when it is in a compact storage position (no longer available)
- Garbage bag holder that can be attached to the grill for storing shopping bags (no longer available)
- A transport basket that can replace a refrigerator and contains tools, paper towels and all other necessities. (They suspect he’s no longer available).
How portable is it?
Although the design concept of the Char-Broil Grill2Go is fantastic, unfortunately it cannot be turned into a real portable grill.
The first blow to portability is the weight. With emptycoolers weighing about 70 pounds it would be difficult for many people to get them in and out of their car.
If it fits in your car. Unlike many other portable grills, the size, when compact, still takes up a lot of space due to the extra height of the coolers. The can match the if you have a large SUV.
It’s also a bit of a hit-and-run. Although the grille is compact enough and has a set of wheels on which it can be rolled, these wheels don’t seem to have a profile high enough to ride comfortably on anything off-road or on slippery roads.
Add to this the fact that with the you can only pull this grill through the , because if you push the grill in both directions, the handle pulls back and you get a grill that is not very portable.
The grill is very easy to install and set up, but the fact is that it is really too big, too uncomfortable and too heavy to be called a portable grill.
If you can easily lift over 70 lbs in the back of your truck or SUV, this can be your ideal portable grill. Otherwise we only recommend it to those who plan to take it out of their garage and put it on their driveway.
And of course it is carefully folded for storage, but I do not recommend leaving it where it is exposed to rain or snow.
Do you need a more portable grill?
We looked at the grill, which is made in the same style, but is much lighter and has much higher ratings. Look at this portable grill.
Luckily Grill2Go Ice cooks a little better than he moves, but don’t expect him to turn you into a 5-star chef.
The most important feature is an infrared tray under the grill. This allows the heat generated by the 10,500 BTU burner to be captured and transferred to the grill. This allows you to cook food a little faster without having to worry about charring, because the burner is not exposed to the fat dripping from your food.
Juices that fall on the bowl also evaporate immediately, which gives an extra flavour when boiled with the lid down. For a better smoky taste just add a few wood chips of your choice in the infrared scale.
One of my problems is that the cooking grid is not made of cast iron, but that it really has a personal preference. Cooking steaks, chicken and other grilled dishes is no problem.
I don’t recommend cooking with pots and pans. Because the grill does not use a direct flame, the heat does not penetrate the food well enough to cook it properly.
The infrared dish must NOT be used as a pan.
This is a common mistake many people make because it looks like a frying pan. That’s not true!
If you use a grill, the infrared dish must be below the cooking surface.
Although the infrared panel is designed to catch grease dripping from your food, it is possible that grease leaks from the bottom of the grill and from the floor to the cooler bags. The most obvious remedy is to remove the cooling bags during cooking.
Otherwise, this is very easy to grill for cleaning the , because the infrared scale absorbs most of the fat and residue.
Char-Broil recommends that you clean the appliance with a strong detergent or grill cleaner. Although they also recommend burning leftovers from the kitchen grill, you shouldn’t be surprised if the grill needs a little more attention. I used a brush with firm plastic bristles, with which I could easily clean and lubricate extra food. I do not recommend the use of a wire brush, as it can damage the porcelain layer.
This is not a high quality grill that will serve you for years to come. In fact, I expected it to be quite fragile, as I read about it before I bought it and found that many others said the same thing.
When I received my Grill2go, I opened the box to find a dent in the lid, and the paint was painted off. The case is made of fairly thin steel, so it’s not surprising that this is a common complaint.
Another problem is that some parts of the bearings are made of plastic and tend to crack. It’s not what I’ve been through, but by looking at the pieces, I understood why they could break. They seem a little fragile.
The overall quality of this grill leaves much to be desired, although it can be assembled without breaking anything, it is slightly stronger.
Advantages and disadvantages of
- Compact design for easy storage
- Optional refrigerated bags for separate storage of food and beverages
- Infrared tray prevents charring, gives flavour and facilitates cleaning
- He looks fantastic.
- The weight is too heavy to really be portable. Also very large, even in a compact condition. Doesn’t fit most cars.
- The wheels are high enough to transport them only on slippery surfaces.
- Cheap materials
- The price list on the Char-Broil site is $159.99, but at the time of writing I can’t find it for less than $200, and it’s not even available on the Char-Broil site.
- Short-term guarantee
Reviews and recommendations
Overall, the assessments and evaluations are mixed. Some people like the way she cooks. Others complain there’s no fire. Some had problems with the assembly, others had no problems at all and thought it was a pretty strong product.
But in general, this grill could barely get 3.5 stars in all the consumer reviews I found, and barely half of the reviews gave it a satisfactory or better rating.
If we compare satisfied customers with dissatisfied customers, it seems to me that grill may look a bit like game.
View withClosed lid Although the cooling bags make the Grill2Go Ice portable, we have discovered that the Grill2Go Ice is too big and too heavy to hit a medium-sized car. This makes the whole device useless, like a portable grill. If you can’t move it on a pile, why do you have coolers? A new concept, poorly executed.
On the other hand, I can see how the folding functions can be suitable for people who want to store their barbecues in a smaller space when not in use. If you have limited space in your garage or on your terrace, this can be a good option.
In general, judging by the design and the questionable reactions of other owners, this grill is not the best choice. It probably wouldn’t be the worst choice, but you could do better.

Customer evaluation :
Let’s be honest. Grill2Go is uncomfortable to transport and is not of the best quality. He would make a good grill if the quality was a little better. And as such, the really cool design is all I like.
But with my dented lid, defective parts reports and weight, I can’t bring myself to appreciate it above.
Although there are no other solutions for the housing of the cooling bags, the grill, which is very similar in functions but much more portable, would be the Coleman LXE. The only important feature of the Grill2Go Ice is an infrared plate. Otherwise it has more heat, a different burner, better ratings and is much more portable.
Prices and sources of supply
The price of this device is also somewhat chaotic in itself. The Char-Broil website is long gone, but they have it for $159. Like other shopkeepers, I rarely see him on the list for less than $200.
It is possible that this model is no longer being produced, as fewer and fewer retailers even list it on a daily basis. Amazon has always put it on its lists, and only because there are third parties storing it.
Update : I haven’t seen this grill at any retailer since the end of 2013 and most accessories have not been available since 2017. The old Amazon product page can be found here.
